Next Tuesday, August 1 at 6:30 PM, Library Park will be will humming and buzzing with the smooth sounds of the second Jazz & Blues concert of the summer in the theme of In the Tradition: An evening of Jazz Standards. Pat Loomis has pulled together his Friends for the evening, including Pat Loomis - saxophones; Antonio Loomis, guitar; Kevin Harris, piano; Ron Mahdi, bass; and Yoron Israel, drums.
At the first concert on July 18, themed Return To Forever: A Salute To The Music Of Chick Corea, a thunderstorm burst loose three-quarters through the concert but the music had been great so not all was lost. Here's hoping to a dry day on August 1. .
The two final concerts will be held August 15 and August 29. Titled Aidan's Choice: A Birthday Tribute to the great Aidan Shiell-Loomis and The Quiet Storm: An Evening Of Smooth, Seductive Grooves, respectively, both will feature vocalists. The August 15 concert celebrates the birthday of the non-musician in Pat Loomis's family, Aidan, a writer, but one who chose the orchestration.
The concerts are sponsored jointly by the Friends of the South End Library (FOSEL) and the South End branch of the Boston Public Library, The event is free. We serve delicious watermelon slices.
