ALCHEMY Melanin Project - Art Class for Teens

In this art class, kids ages 13-18 will learn, strengthen, and build their collective knowledge about racism. They will express, through painting, their own feelings and thoughts about inequality and their visions of justice for all people.

The class is led by Daniel Jay, who makes science-influenced works of art using scientific materials to express his feelings about science and social issues. In ARCHEMY: the Melanin Project, Jay explains skin color, the pigment melanin found in the cells of all species, and shows how he uses squid ink, composed of melanin, as an art medium to make art that speaks to social injustice and systemic racism.

For info about art supplies for the class, call South End Children's Librarian, Margaret Gardner at (617) 536-8241.
