Amy Scher, an energy therapist specializing in mind-body healing, and bestselling author of How to Heal Yourself from Depression When No One Else Can: A Self-Guided Program to Stop Feeling Like Sh*t, will talk at South End Writes via ZOOM on Tuesday, February 23 at 7:00 PM. Her previous books are titled, How to Heal Yourself When No One Else Can and This Is How I Save My Life .
Scher, who has been described as an ‘accidental guru,’ uses energy therapy techniques to help those experiencing emotional and physical challenges. After years of suffering from chronic illnesses, including chronic Lyme disease, autoimmune conditions, nerve damage, endometriosis and anxiety, among other ailments, she discovered answers to her question: “Why do some people heal from emotional and physical issues, while others don’t?”
Her own inspirational story, down-to-earth approach to healing, and accessible teaching style have been well received by a variety of audiences. “Since healing myself completely when doctors had given up all hope, I now help others do the same,” she says on her web page. “Our beliefs, trauma, stuck emotions, patterns, and relationship with stress determine our wellbeing and we need to make sure we get all that good stuff in order to be in full healing mode.”
Scher’s books have been translated into ten languages. A personal essay was included in the New York Times bestselling collection by Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray Love Made Me Do It. Her work has been endorsed by Vikas Swarup, New York Times bestselling author of Slumdog Millionaire; Pam Grout, New York Times bestselling author of E-2; and Sanjiva Chopra, author of Brotherhood, with Deepak Chopra. She has been featured in The Times of India, Daily News, CNN, The Huffington Post, CBS, The Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, The Los Angeles Review of Books, Curve Magazine, The Rumpus and the San Francisco Book Review. She was named one of The Advocate’s “40 Under 40.”
Her other credits include working with organizations such as the Department of Psychiatry at Stanford University; New York Presbyterian Hospital; Harley-Davidson Motor Company; New York Open Center; The New School in New York City; and Manhattan’s Jewish Community Center. She is a member of the Associate Board for Literacy Partners, a Manhattan organization that empowers parents through literacy education.
